Important Information Concerning Packaging

Electronic components are easily damaged by Static Electricity.

The Printed Circuit Board (PCB) you removed with one fault could arrive with hundreds.

  • When handling a Printed Circuit Board try not to touch any metal or trackwork.

  • Only hold onto plastic parts where possible or the edges of the board.

  • Never wrap a Printed Circuit Board in BubbleWrap unless it is certified as Anti-Static

or the board is wrapped in paper first.

  • Only handle PCBs after you are sure you have discharged your bodies Static Charge (touch a metal pipe, tap or something known to be Earthed). Wrap the PCB in cooking foil and place in a paper bag or newspaper before wrapping in bubble wrap. Never allow bubble wrap to touch the PCB unless it is certified as Anti-Static.

If you do not have Electro Static Protective Packaging please contact us and we will send you some (see www.Farnell.co.uk Part No. 1501218).

It is very easy to give a PCB a static shock from your body and not know that it has happened.

Carpet, clothing and hair produce enough Static Electricity to seriously injure electronic components. It may not show up under testing but the components life expectancy can be severely reduced.
